Federal Skilled Trades Class

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is tailored for skilled workers seeking permanent residency, specifically those who are proficient in a skilled trade.

Minimum Requirements

  • Meet the prescribed language proficiency levels for each aspect of language ability.
  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the 5 years preceding your application.
  • Satisfy the job prerequisites for the skilled trade as outlined in the National Occupational Classification, except for requiring a certificate of qualification.
  • Possess a valid job offer of full-time employment lasting for a minimum duration of one year or
  • Hold a certificate of qualification in the relevant skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority.
  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program does not have an education requirement.

Skilled Work Experience

Skilled trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are categorized under specific groups within the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

  • Under Major Group 72 are industrial, electrical, and construction trades.
  • Within Major Group 73 are maintenance and equipment operation trades.
  • Supervisors and technical roles in natural resources, agriculture, and related production fall under Major Group 82.
  • Processing, manufacturing, and utilities supervisors, along with central control operators, are grouped in Major Group 92.
  • Chefs and cooks are classified under Minor Group 632.
  • Butchers and bakers are categorized within Minor Group 633.
