Study Permit Visa

 

Subclass 500:

The Student visa (subclass 500) allows you to remain in Australia for upto 5 years for the purpose of full-time study at an educational institution, in line with your enrolment.

With this visa you can:

  1. Take part in an eligible course of study
  2. Include your family members in your application

iii.         Apply online for study visa  from within or out of Australia

  1. Work upto 40 hours for 2-week per month once your course starts

 

 

Eligibility criteria for the Student visa 500

 

  • Provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) at a full-time course registered
  • Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses for Overseas Students, CRICOS
  • Show evidence of your English language skills
  • You and your family members must be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from an approved Australian health insurance provider for the length of your stay in Australia
  • If you’re under 18 years, you must have adequate welfare arrangements in place while you are in Australia
  • Have enough funds for the course duration

 

 

 

 

Subclass 485:

 

This visa allows you to Stay in Australia if you are an eligible international student who has graduated from an Australian CRICOS registered course. One can include family

in the application including  partner, child or partner’s child. They must meet health and character visa requirements.Family can work unrestricted hours in any sector.

 

Eligibility criteria for the Student visa 485

 

  • Be under 35 years of age or under at the time of application. Exceptions apply.
  • Have held a Student (subclass 500) visa in the last six months.
  • Provide evidence you have applied for an AFP check when you apply.
  • Provide evidence of the required level of English language with the application.

 

 

 

Length of stay and work rights:

The length of your stay on a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) varies depending on the course you studied and the visa stream you apply for.

 

There are three streams:  

 

  1. Post-Vocational Education Work stream (former Graduate Work stream):

This visa stream is for international students who have recently graduated with qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations Australia needs.

 

  • Post-Vocational Education Work stream holders can stay in Australia for up to 18 months.
  • Must be under 35 years of age or under when you apply.
  • Must hold a qualification relevant to your nominated occupation on the skilled occupation list.
  • Must meet the Australian study requirement with an associate degree, diploma or trade qualification only.

 

  1. Post-Higher Education Work stream (former Post-Study Work stream)

This visa stream is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian education institution.

 

  • Must be under 35 years of age or under when you apply.
  • Must have a recent degree in a CRICOS-registered course.
  • Must meet the Australian study requirement with a degree level qualification or higher.

 

Stay periods:

 

  • One can stay usually between 2 and 3 years, depending on qualification.
  • Indian nationals can stay as agreed in the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement for 2 to 4 years:
  • Bachelor degree (including honours) – upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree (with first class honours in STEM, including ICT) – upto 3 years
  • Masters (coursework, extended and research) – upto 3 years
  • Doctoral degrees (PhD) – upto 4 years.

 

  1. Second Post-Higher Education Work stream (former Second Post-Study Work stream):

 

This visa stream is for Temporary Graduates holding a Post-Higher Education Work, Post-Study Work or Replacement visa. Students graduated from an Australian institution located in a regional area.One must be under 35 years of age or under when the application is submitted.

 

One can stay between 1 and 2 years depending on:

 

  • In the region of the educational institute of graduation that led to the grant of your first Temporary Graduate visa
  • In the region of Temporary Graduate visa at the Post-Higher Education Work, Post-Study Work or Replacement stream.

 

Which stream should I apply for?

 

  • Holding an associate degree, diploma or trade qualification, should apply for the Post-Vocational Education Work stream. The qualification must be closely related to nominated occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • If the qualification is degree level or higher, apply for the Post-Higher Education Work stream.
