Bridge Open Work Permit

If you currently hold a Work Permit in Canada and have submitted an application for permanent residency, you may be eligible to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP). This permit enables you to retain your current job or seek new employment while your application for permanent residency is under review.
Eligibility of the BOWP
To qualify, you must have applied for permanent residency under the FSW Program, CEC, FST Program, Provincial Nominee Program, or one of the two caregivers classes.
You must also:
-
Currently be in Canada -
Have a valid Work Permit that will expire in less than four months.
When to apply for the BOWP
If you’ve applied for permanent residency via the Express Entry system, you can initiate your Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) application as soon as you receive your Acknowledgment of Receipt (AoR), which is automatically generated and accessible in your Express Entry account upon submission of your application. It’s imperative to include this letter as a supporting document for your BOWP application.
However, issuance of the BOWP is contingent upon Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducting a completeness check (R10 check) of your permanent residence application, typically within the initial stages of processing, before the BOWP is granted.
A BOWP is only available if you’ve already applied for permanent residence. Here’s how to apply for Canadian PR.
