Sponsor your dependent children
You have the option to sponsor your dependent children, whether they are your biological or adopted children, to reside with you as permanent residents in Canada.
To qualify for sponsorship, children must meet the following definition of a dependent child:
- A child is regarded as dependent if they are unmarried, not in a common-law relationship, and under 22 years of age. If a child is over 22 years old, they may still qualify as dependent if they have a physical or mental condition preventing them from supporting themselves.
To be eligible under this program, you and your child abroad must be approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to receive a visa. Additionally, you must provide evidence of your relationship with the child you are sponsoring, which can be demonstrated through a birth or adoption certificate.
