Canada Experience Class
Individuals who have worked in Canada and seek to establish permanent residency in the country along with their accompanying dependents may be eligible to apply under the Canadian Experience Class.
The Canadian Experience Class program acknowledges the value brought to Canada by candidates who have dedicated substantial time to pursuing studies and building careers within the country. It acknowledges their contributions to the Canadian economy and the establishment of robust connections to Canadian society. This serves to reinforce Canada’s permanent residency initiatives.
CEC Requirements
- Have obtained at least one year of skilled, professional or technical work experience in Canada within 36 months of the application date.
- Achieve a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 5 ("initial intermediate") or 7 ("adequate intermediate proficiency"), as per the requirements of the job level, or exceed these benchmarks.
- Intend to reside and work outside of the province of Quebec. (Individuals with work experience in Quebec and a desire to settle in Quebec may apply through the Quebec Experience Class.)
Candidates can stay in Canada during the application process. Nonetheless, the Canadian Experience Class welcomes individuals who are currently outside of Canada, given they submit their application within three years of leaving their Canadian job.
The eligibility criteria for the Canadian Experience Class follow a pass or fail model. Meeting the minimum requirements grants entry into the Express Entry pool.
Note: Self-employment and work experience obtained during full-time student status (e.g., during a co-op work term) are not considered valid under this program.
Best Option For International Students
For numerous international graduates, the Canadian Experience Class often provides the quickest and most straightforward route to attaining permanent residency. Following the completion of a program or course at a Canadian educational institution, many international graduates can stay in the country on post-graduate work permits. If, during this period, a graduate accrues at least one year of employment in a skilled, professional, or technical field, they may subsequently qualify to enter the Express Entry pool under the Canadian Experience Class.
